Run The Room for…

Teens

Master the culture and cadence of a working Hollywood writers’ room in this four-week simulation

“Run The Room is perfect for any writer at any level, whether you have full representation, have supported a staff before, or are coming in with only talent and gumption. I not only learned the practical skills of a room but also discovered how I feel like I'll personally fit into a room one day. Zach is an incredible teacher, and he might just be the best showrunner you'll ever work with.”

Zach creates a supportive environment where there are no bad ideas or questions but he also provides helpful feedback that strengthened my pitching skills. I feel a lot more confident in knowing how a writers' room dynamic works and how to navigate it effectively. Hit that apply button!”

I learned so much about what it takes to be successful in a room — from room dynamics and pitching techniques to general career advice and constructive ways to receive feedback, Zach was an incredibly effective teacher. I couldn't recommend this program more, not only for everything learned, but also for the wonderful opportunity to connect with so many amazing writers!”

What is
Run the Room for Teens?

Run the Room is a simulated TV writers’ room. Here, you build the real skills of the job: pitching, breaking a story, taking notes that blow up your favorite scene, and putting it all back up on its feet.

You can only get so far writing on your own. In the room, you’ll learn from everyone around you and watch a story come together with notes and opinions flying everywhere. There’s nothing like it, and it’s the best practice there is for breaking into television!

What you’ll learn

Run The Room covers all the skills you need to be a great TV writer, including:

  1. How to pitch
  2. Storybreaking
  3. Character journeys
  4. How to listen and be heard
  5. How to give and take notes
  6. Co-writing and collaboration
  1. Navigating the hierarchy
  2. How to pivot like a pro
  3. How to earn fast title bumps
  4. How to get out of your head
  5. How to be valuable on Day One

Run The Room delivered on everything promised. It demystified the nuts and bolts of a writers' room and let us practice the work in a low-stakes, highly educational environment. Zach does a great job of creating an enjoyable and worthwhile course that leaves you feeling all the more confident to approach whatever writing opportunities await you in the future.

Run The Room was an incredibly positive experience. Zach and the other participants were extremely supportive, encouraging, and generous as I worked on strengthening my pitching skills. Zach is an insightful and skilled teacher who creates a safe, thoughtful, and instructive space to take risks, receive feedback, and learn from the process. After a month of sessions, I left the program feeling much more confident not only in pitching, but also in developing and articulating story. Highly recommend!
